Yesterday was so much fun. In the afternoon, Melinda (my friend in SCTI with me) and I made hotel reservations for Golden Week, a week-long vacation that's coming up at the end of this month! I'm in a group of 8 students planning to spend the week in Kyushu, Japan's southernmost main island. We asked Uehira-san, one of the nice ladies who works in the SCTI office, to do call all the places for us.
In the evening, Helen Bing, our program's main donor, came to visit, and she hosted a grand formal dinner at a French restaurant near our campus. It was a five course meal, with all kinds of wines and champagne, and crispy fresh french bread, and and it was all delicious! I have to guess what some of the dishes were because the waiters described them in Japanese and I unfortunately am not at the level at which I could understand most of it.
all the wonderful beverages--champagne, red wine, white wine, orange juice (not pictured: iced tea, beer that even I thought tasted good)
1st: white asparagus with sashimi
2nd: yummy creamy soup of some sort
3rd: delicious fish with decorative veggies and good sauce
4th: steak and either non-spicy jalapenos or part of a really long bell pepper =)
5th: dessert--I have no idea--a crispy thin wafer on top of strawberry-flavored cream and yogurt?
Mrs. Bing and me (not a course!)
the coffee that came afterwards (I think to help everyone sober up!)
That's me for you--more pictures of food than of people. The restaurant was on the 7th floor of the Kanbaikan Business/Law School at Doshisha. I think everyone really enjoyed themselves.
Anyway, I somehow was granted the honor of giving Mrs. Bing a tour of Doshisha Campus and Shokoku-ji (a nearby Rinzai Zen temple) with a group or 3 or 4 other students, and that's happening tomorrow. It should be lots of fun, though I don't know how I'm going to give a tour of a school I barely know anything about. Oh well!

wow janet, this is seriously looking like the coolest trip ever.
keep the posts and pictures of food coming!
Wow Janet!! It seems like you're having an awesome time at college (wished I was at Japan TT_TT). Somehow I got suckered into student government (actually, it's quite interesting and challenging, but definitely a time sink). What else are you up to? --grace
